Singapore Places First in Food Security

The Economist Intelligence Unit released this year’s Global Food Security Index (GFSI) on Dec. 15. In the 100-point index, South Korea scored 73.6 to come in 29th among 113 countries. Specifically, South Korea ranked 20th in food supply capacity, 32nd in food safety and quality, and 45th in food purchase capacity.
 

The list was topped by Singapore, which scored 87.4. It was followed by Ireland (84), the United States (83.7), Switzerland (83.1), and Finland and Norway (82.9 each).

The top 10 list was filled with European and North American countries with the only exception of Singapore. Japan and China came in 21st and 35th with 76.5 and 71, respectively.
