First Telecom Equipment Exports to Canada

Samsung Electronics researchers test 5G mobile communication technology aboard cars running at more than 100 km per hour.

Samsung Electronics announced on Dec. 15 that it will supply 4G LTE-A and 5G mobile communication solutions to Canadian carrier Videotron. This is the first time Samsung supplies mobile communication equipment to Canada.

Videotron has been providing cable TV and high-speed Internet services since its establishment in 1964. In 2010, it jumped into the mobile service business, becoming the fastest growing company in the sector. Videotron currently offers 4G LTE services, and plans to launch 4G LTE-A and commercial 5G services in the second quarter of 2020.

Samsung Electronics will supply the latest 4G LTE-A communication equipment such as dual-band base stations and massive multiple-input and multiple-output (MIMO) base stations to Quebec and Ottawa in the first half of 2020. It will also supply 5G communication equipment for the 3.5 GHz and 28 GHz bands in the future.

Samsung Electronics plans to help Canadian carriers provide stable high-speed communication services based on its 4G LTE-A equipment that has been proved in various markets and its experience in commercializing 5G for the first time in the world. Canada is expected to start commercial 5G services in the second half of 2020.
