Samsung Electronics once again proved its unparalleled position as the world’s number one seller of large format displays (LFDs). LFDs, which are mainly used to provide information at companies, hospitals, and airports, have recently been showing strong growth.

According to market research firm DisplaySearch on April 2, Samsung has maintained the top spot for the fifth consecutive year, with a 26.3 percent market share in 2013. Given the second-largest LFD manufacturer’s 10.3 percent market share, the figure for the largest LFD manufacturer is more than twice as large as that of NEC Corporation, the runner-up.

In the final quarter of last year, the Korean tech giant recorded a 29.1 percent market share, which was the highest-ever quarterly result. Samsung’s market share is 2.7 percent higher than the combined number of companies in the second, third, fourth, fifth, and sixth spots (26.4 percent).

Last year, Samsung became the top-ranked LFD maker in the North American market for the first time, the world’s largest LFD market, by capturing 23 percent of it. Its 32.8 percent share also propelled the firm to the top spot in the Western European market.

The success in Western Europe is attributable to the fact that the Korean company has targeted the B2B markets in the region through its consistent participation at the Integrated Systems Europe (ISE) show, which is Europe’s No. 1 show for AV and electronic systems integration.
