Four Camera Lenses on the Back

Samsung Electronics will unveil the Galaxy A51, the first model of the 2020 Galaxy A series, in Vietnam, the largest market in Southeast Asia, on Dec. 12. The Galaxy A51 will feature a bunch of innovations, including a rear quad camera and a front hole display.

The most notable point of the Galaxy A51 is its rear camera. Four lenses (48 million, 12 million, 5 million, and 5 million pixels) will be placed in the shape of an L inside a rectangular module. This is similar to the iPhone 11’s squircle-shaped rear camera module that attracted much attention. The Galaxy A51 is also the cheapest model among Samsung smartphones with rear quad cameras.

The front has a display that fills the entire screen except for a top center camera hole. The front camera has 32 million pixels.

Samsung Electronics is planning to release various A series models including the Galaxy A71 next year, starting with the Galaxy A51. The Galaxy A series will compete with its rivals from Chinese brands such as Huawei and Xiaomi in the global budget phone market. In particular, it is gaining popularity by incorporating innovative technologies such as a multi-lens camera and on-screen fingerprint recognition ahead of premium phones.
