Korea-Cambodia Patent Recognition Program
The first patent in Cambodia that is based on the Patent Recognition Program (PRP) of South Korea and Cambodia has been registered. With the PRP, which became effective on the first day of this month, the registration of a Cambodian patent corresponding to a registered South Korean patent can be completed within three months through a simplified procedure.
The Korean Intellectual Property Office and the Ministry of Industry and Handicrafts of Cambodia met with each other in Seoul on Nov. 21 and gave the first PRP-based patent registration certificate to Wellsbio.
Earlier, the company applied for the patent for its microfluidic chip and diagnostic instrument to facilitate patient-specific and side effect-free malaria treatment by checking G6PD deficiency with ease and speed. The patent application was conducted in Cambodia in 2015 but the company failed to reach examination for four years before benefitting from the program.
