While smartphone makers such as Samsung Electronics and Huawei are releasing their foldable phones, LG Electronics has registered a patent on a smartphone whose screen can be doubled in size.

LG Electronics has filed a patent for an “expandable phone'' with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). The design patent was registered on Feb. 27 and published on Nov. 15.

The concept of the patent is that the display size doubles when the device is pulled sideways.

Since it is a concept in the initial stage, the design does not show where the camera lens and sensor are located in the smartphone.

LG Electronics is concentrating on a dual-screen form factor by releasing the V50 ThinQ and the V50S ThinQ in the first and second half of this year, respectively. In addition, it has presented a new form factor concept against foldable phones.
