KT chairman and CEO Hwang Chang-gyu in Switzerland emphasized the importance of social value creation by means of 5G communications and artificial intelligence.

He gave a special lecture on 5G communications at the ETH Zurich on Oct. 22 (local time). The one-hour morning lecture, which was attended by more than 400 students, was the 33rd session of the school’s global special lecture program that started in 2014 and the first in the program that covered 5G communications.

During the lecture, he said that the ultra-high speed, ultra-low latency and hyper-connectivity of 5G communications will bring an amazing change to the world, the change will become even greater based on B2B as well as B2C services, and an increasing use of 5G solutions will lead to a 50 percent decline in the frequency of accidents and a 40 percent productivity improvement.

“5G communications’ effects will be boosted when it is combined with data-based artificial intelligence,” he continued to say, adding, “The information and communications technology including 5G is expected to reduce the worldwide damage from natural disasters, which amounts to US$210 billion a year now, and contribute to various problem-solving efforts.” He also said that KT has set up 5G-based platforms for disaster risk reduction and global epidemic prevention in that regard.
