A Voice-controlled 5G Drone

Police officers control a 5G smart drone from LG U+ through voice commands.

LG U+ has demonstrated its 5G “U+ Smart Drone” featuring artificial intelligence (AI)-based voice recognition functions and real-time high-definition video transmission.

Police officers from the Siheung Police Station and Baehae Police Box participated in the demonstration, which was held in Baegot New Town, Siheung of Gyeonggi Province near Seoul, on Oct. 21.

Police officers controlled the smart drone, which flew up to an altitude of 50 meters at a speed of 36 km per hour, with voice commands through an application.

As a Siheung Police Station officer shouted the command “Take Off,” the smart drone began to fly up into the air without a delay as it was based on an ultra-low latency 5G network. Then the officer ordered the drone to hover, resume its mission (reconnaissance), return, and land on the ground through voice commands.

LG U+ officials also demonstrated high-definition real-time video transmission through the drone's camera.
