International education agency IDP Education and the Times Higher Education (THE) held a press conference in Seoul on March 17 and announced their annual college rankings for the period of 2013 to 2014. Seoul National University ranked 44th, while the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH), Yonsei University, Korea University, Sungkyunkwan University, and Hanyang University followed it as members of the top 400 list.

Established in 1971, THE draws up their list every year by considering various factors such as educational conditions, international reputations, industry-academia cooperation, and research paper citations.

According to this year’s result, Seoul National University climbed 15 notches to take the highest place among Korean colleges. KAIST jumped 12 ranks to 56th, while POSTECH fell 10 notches to 60th. Yonsei University fell from 183rd to 190th, and Korea and Sungkyunkwan Universities were between 201st and 225th. Hanyang University ranked between 350th and 400th.
