Hyosung Corporation on March 12 announced that it is starting a full-fledged global brand marketing of its newly-dveloped high-functioning carbon fiber called Tansome at JEC Europe 2014.

JEC Europe is the world’s biggest complex material exhibitions that is held in March every year in Paris, France, and it opened for three days this year from the 11th to 13th (local time).

Hyosung, which first participated in the exhibition in 2013, is going to expand its presence in the global market by promoting the achievements of the carbon fiber business that they started last year, the excellence of the product, and the brand itself, targeting the customers and experts related to the industry around the world.

Carbon fiber is 75 percent lighter but ten times stronger than steel. Hence, it is considered to be a state-of-the-art new material to replace steel in the future.

Carbon fiber is already being used widely. Automobiles, power generators, engineering and construction, pressure vessels, and aircraft including the Boeing 787 and A380 are now using the material.

Tansome, which was introduced at JEC Europe 2013, holds a peculiar meaning of “marvelous carbon fiber born from powerful flame.” One staff member from Hyosung expressed that Tansome’s elasticity and strength is the best in the world. At the 2014 Geneva Motor Show held on March 5 this year, Tansome grabbed the world’s attention by showing its use in Hyndai Motor’s concept car Intrado’s frame, side panel, and hood. Intrado’s Tansome frame is as strong as steel, but 60 percent lighter, making vehicles more fuel efficient.

“With our 50 years of experience in the industry and the technology we have developed over the time, Hyosung will try to make Tansome a leading brand in the rapidly-growing global carbon fiber market. Moreover, we will also try to nurture it to be one of the key industries of the country,” said Cho Hyun-sang, the head of industrial material PG and vice president of strategic business division of Hyosung.
