An Ultra-compact 2-seat Electric Vehicle

Renault's ultra-compact electric vehicle (EV) Twizy

Renault's ultra-compact electric vehicle (EV) Twizy will be produced in Busan, Korea. Renault Samsung Motors announced on Oct. 2 that it held a ceremony to celebrate Twizy production in Busan with Dongshin Motech, a company that will assemble the Twizy at Renault Samung’s plant.

Since its debut in 2011, the Twizy has sold more than 30,000 units worldwide. In Korea, it was launched in 2016 and has sold more than 3,400 units until September of this year.

Korea has thus far imported the two-seat EVs produced at the Renault factory in Valladolid, Spain. But beginning in October, Dongshin Motech will produce the Twizy for the Korean and overseas markets.

Renault Samsung will provide the production site, technological support, and parts supply, while the Busan Metropolitan Government will give administrative and financial support for facility investment and sales expansion. Dongshin Motech, an auto parts manufacturer in Busan, will produce about 5,000 units of the Twizy a year for domestic sales and exports.

Twizy export markets are expected to expand from Europe to other regions. Renault Samsung will consider ramping up production of the Twizy if sales are brisk.
