Korea Rail Network Authority announced on Sept. 26 that its chairman Kim Sang-kyun signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on the Medan Metropolitan Light Rail project with Eddie Rahmayadi, governor of North Sumatra, Indonesia, at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Seoul on Sept. 26.

Korea Rail Network Authority and North Sumatra of Indonesia agreed to cooperate in promoting the Medan Metropolitan Light Rail project, developing railway infrastructure construction technology, transferring railway management capabilities to Indonesia and increasing railway transportation capabilities.

Meanwhile, Medan City, the capital of North Sumatra, has been developing and planning a 70 km railway link between Medan City and metropolitan cities since 2016. To this end, a Korea-led consortium plans to participate in the project by forming a grand consortium including local companies after a feasibility study on the route of the project and financial verification of the project.

“By signing this MOU, Korea Rail Network Authority has laid the foundation for winning the Medan metropolitan light rail project,” said Kim.
