EV Batteries That Met Ferrari's High Standards

The SF90 Stradale from Ferrari

SK Innovation will supply batteries for Ferrari's first mass-produced electric vehicle model. The company has added a supercar brand to its growing list of clients, which includes Daimler Group and the Volkswagen Group of Germany.

SK Innovation has been selected as the battery supplier for the SF90 Stradale, Ferrari's first mass-produced plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) model, industry sources said on Sep. 15. Ferrari picked out SK Innovation after more than two years of checking and assessing products from many battery makers.

The Ferrari model was named to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the company's racing team, Scuderia Ferrari. The battery developed this time has a capacity of 7.9 kwh and exerts power of 162 kW (220 horsepower). Of the four driving modes, the “eDrive mode” allows the car to run 25 km even when the internal combustion engine is turned off.

Industry watchers say that SK Innovation's supply of batteries to Ferrari, one of the world’s top three supercar brands along with Lamborghini of Italy and McLaren of the United Kingdom, means that the company’s batteries have met Ferrari's high performance and stability standards.
