A new office building for LG Electronics' North American operations will be completed this year in 10 years since the project began in 2009, the company said on Sept. 15.
About 1,000 employees will work at the new building in New Jersey, the United States, which will serve as the control tower of the company's operations in North America.
The company invested US$300 million into the building, which is built on a site of 110,000 square meters. It has a floor space of 63,000 square meters, six times larger than the existing main office building, which is also in New Jersey.
LG Electronics has recently been expanding its investment in North America, in particular home electronics. North America is an important market to LG Electronics as it accounts for 30 percent of the company’s sales.
LG Electronics began to operate its Tennessee plant, the first washing machine production base in the United States, in the first half of this year. It invested US$360 million in the plant. In Huntsville, Alabama, the company transformed its TV factory into a solar module plant to penetrate the U.S. solar module market.
