To Expand Demand for Foldable Phones

Samsung Electronics is reportedly developing a second foldable phone with famous designer Thom Browne. Samsung appears to be seeking to expand demand for foldable phones by appealing not only to some early adopters but to consumers interested in fashion.

According to Bloomberg, Samsung plans to release a new foldable phone early next year. The foldable phone currently under development looks like a flip phone that folds vertically and has a 6.7-inch display when unfolded. The Galaxy Fold, which will be launched on Sept. 6, is horizontally folded and has a 4.6-inch display when folded and a 7.3-inch display when unfolded.

Samsung chose the vertically folding method in order to increase the portability of foldable phones, experts say. When folded in half, the shape becomes square so the device is convenient to carry in a pocket like a wallet.

Samsung Electronics will make the second foldable phone cheaper and slimmer than the Galaxy Fold, Bloomberg said. Two cameras will be loaded onto the back so users can shoot a subject in front of it when the phone is unfolded and take a selfie when it is folded.
