Samsung Electronics is considering receiving preorders for the foldable phone Galaxy Fold beginning on Sept. 6 in the United States and Korea at the same time. It is in five months since the postponement of its launch in April.

Samsung Electronics and Korea’s three mobile carriers will release the Galaxy Fold on Sept. 6 in Korea, industry sources said on Aug. 29. On the same day, Europe's largest consumer electronics exhibition IFA2019 will open in Berlin, Germany.

Currently, industry observers expect the initial order volume to reach about 30,000 units. Since the Galaxy Fold will retail at 2.3 million won to 2.4 million won, they say that the company appears to be following a strategy of adjusting its production volume based on market reactions.

Initially, Samsung Electronics planned to release the foldable phone in foreign countries sequentially after its launch in the U.S. in late April, but put the plan on hold due to controversy over display defects.

Samsung increased the size of the display film and fixed it under the bezel and added a metal layer to better protect the display. A protective cap was placed on the top and bottom of the hinge to minimize the gap.
