Global Android Share

Mobile analytics and marketing firm Localytics announced on March 3 that Samsung devices made up 65 percent of all the Android phones used in the world as of Feb., nabbing the top spot in Android phone rankings.

In particular, the Galaxy S series accounted for 30 percent of the total. By model, the Galaxy S4 comprised 10 percent, with the Galaxy S3 15 percent, the Galaxy S2 4 percent, and the Galaxy S at 1 percent. The fact that the market share of the Galaxy S3 is one and a half times larger than that of the latest model is somewhat atypical.

Localytics said the Galaxy S4 struggled in the market presumably because of stiff competition. Alternatively, people using previous versions, including the Galaxy S3, probably did not feel the need to switch their phones with new models.

LG occupied the runner-up position with a 7 percent market share, followed by HTC (6 percent), Sony (5 percent), and Motorola (4 percent).
