Incheon International Airport has set a new milestone by reaching 700 million in cumulative number of passengers.

Incheon International Airport Corp. held an event on Aug. 14 to celebrate this milestone. The 700 millionth passenger entered his home country from Bangkok at around 9:00 a.m. that day. The corporation presented the passenger a pure-gold Turtle Ship model and free airline tickets. Also, a souvenir was given to every passenger who shared the same flight.

The cumulative passenger number of the airport opened on March 29, 2001 reached 700 million in 18 years and five months. It took just 17 months for the number to reach 700 million from 600 million whereas it took four years and seven months for the number to reach 100 million from one. In short, the number of passengers using the airport is increasing at a rapid pace.

Last year, the number of international passengers who used the airport hit an all-time high of 67.68 million with a year-on-year growth of 10 percent and the airport became the world’s fifth-largest international airport in terms of the number of international passengers for the first time since its opening. In addition, the airport is the only top-five airport that posted a double-digit growth last year.
