SK Telecom has been selected as a 5G communication leader in Asia.
Moor Insights & Strategy, a leading high-tech analyst firm in the United States, recently announced companies that lead 5G in categories such as global telecom operators, smartphone makers and equipment companies.
SK Telecom was selected as the winner of Asia in the telecom operator category. T-Mobile and Sprint were chosen for North America and Deutsche Telekom for Europe.
An analyst at Moor Insights and Strategy said that SK Telecom has built a 5G infrastructure nationwide and is actively collaborating with various partners to develop 5G-based B2C and B2B services. He added that SK Telecom is providing various 5G services, including voice, contents and banking, for individual customers, while for corporate customers, it is focusing on areas where 5G's features such as ultra-high speed and ultra-low latency can be fully utilized, such as automobiles, education, distribution, and healthcare.
Along with SK Telecom, China's largest telecommunications company China Mobile was selected as a Asian leader, Reliance Gio of India was named as a follower and NTT DoCoMo, Japan's largest telecommunications company, as a laggard.
In the area of 5G smartphones, Samsung Electronics has been recognized as a dominant leader. "Samsung Electronics has successfully launched 5G smartphones through several regional carriers," a Moor Insights & Strategy analyst said. "Samsung is ahead of all competitors in 5G smartphones, and this leadership will continue this year and next year."
Samsung Electronics was followed LG Electronics, Oppo and Xiaomi, who were all named as leaders. Followers include Chinese companies such as One Plus, Motorola Lenovo, Huawei, ZTE, Vivo and Nubia.
Apple, Google, Sony, and others have been named as laggards. In the 5G mobile chipset, Qualcomm was the leader. In the field of 5G equipment, Ericsson and Samsung Electronics were chosen as leaders, Huawei and Nokia as followers.
