Securities Settlement Comes to 23.1 Tril. Won a Day in First Half of 2019

The amount of Korea Securities Depository’s securities settlement funds grew nearly 5 percent in the first half of this year compared to the second half of last year. KSD’s securities settlement funds increased due to increased settlement of bond transactions despite a decline in stock settlement.

Korea Securities Depository (KSD) announced on July 23 that its securities settlement funds came to 23.10 trillion won (US$19.59 billion) a day on average in the first half of this year. It increased 5.6 percent from the previous half-yearly figure.

Out of the total, the amount of funds used to settle transactions on Korea Exchange stood at 480 billion won (US$407.12 million), down 4.7 percent from 510 billion won (US$432.57 million) in the second half of last year. Institutional settlement for stock also dropped 5.5 percent from 720 billion won (US$611 million) to 680 billion won (US$577.05 million) over the same period.

On the other hand, settlement in the bond market and bond trading institutions rose 15.8 percent and 5.4 percent, respectively, to 1.96 trillion won (US$1.66 billion) and 20 trillion won (US$16.95 billion).

Settlements in the stock exchange came to 480 billion won (US$406.78 million), down 4.7 percent from 510 billion won (US$432.20 million) of the previous half-yearly figure, while that of the bond exchange market stood at 1.96 trillion won (US$1.66 billion) a day on average, up 15.8 percent from 1.69 trillion won (US$1.43 billion).

The daily average amount of over the counter institutional settlement for stock also decreased 5.5 percent to 680 billion won (US$576.27 million) from 720 billion won (US$610.17 million) in the second half of last year, while over the counter institutional settlement for bond grew 5.4 percent to 20 trillion won (US$16.95 billion) from 19 trillion won (US$16.10 billion).
