Three Winners to Receive US$15,000 in Prize Money

Naver and Naver's Japanese subsidiary LINE will hold a hackathon for artificial intelligence (AI) developers around the world.

Naver and Naver's Japanese subsidiary LINE announced on June 26 that they will hold “AI Rush 2019,” a hackathon for artificial intelligence (AI) developers around the world.

The hackathon is intended to stimulate technology development through a sharing of knowledge and experience in deep learning and machine learning between Naver and LINE developers and experts from various countries.

Participants will have to complete a variety of deep-learning and machine-learning tasks online and offline for about a month. After an online preliminary for about 10 days, the top 30 teams will advance to the finals, which will be held at Naver Connect One in Chuncheon of Gangwon Province, Korea. The three final winners will each take home prize money of a total of US$15,000.

This AI Rush will feature sticker recommendation and news recommendation among others selected through image classification. Participants will be provided with necessary resources for model development through Naver's own cloud machine learning platform, NAVER Smart Machine Learning (NSML). The NSML Leader Board will allow participants to check their teams’ scores and real-time rankings. When the deadline comes, leader board scores and rankings will become final. In this event, current developers of Naver and Line will participate as mentors, helping participants improve their understanding of practical knowledge and their skills in the field.

Anyone interested in solving problems through machine learning can participate in AI Rush regardless of their nationalities. Naver will provide transportation expenses to overseas participants. Individuals or three-member teams are eligible. Those who wish to participate should submit their applications to the official website by July 22.
