Samsung Display on Standby For Volume Production of Galaxy Fold
A Samsung Display official said on June 18 that Samsung Electronics is ready for volume production of the Galaxy Fold.
"Foldable phones are ready for volume production, and we are also on standby," said Kim Sung-chul, vice president of Samsung Display, at a special forum held to mark the 20th anniversary of the Korea Information Display Society at Intercontinental Hotel Seoul Parnass in Seoul.
Iindustry experts say that the release of the Galaxy Fold is imminent. The launch of the foldable smartphone was originally slated for April but was delayed due to durability issues. Samsung Electronics has yet to disclose its updated release schedule.
Meanwhile, Kim predicted that foldable displays would develop rapidly in the future. "We need ultra-portable, ultra-immersive and ultra-smart displays in the 5G era,” Kim said. Kim said three keywords would characterize future displays – rollable, stretchable and custom design.
