An Anti-drone Solution Based on 5G

ROK Army 53rd Infantry Division soldiers forcibly land an illegal drone with a jamming gun during their drill in Busan City.

SK Telecom, BA Solutions, Silla University, the ROK Army 53rd Infantry Division, and Hanbit Drone tested their illegal drone response system on June 12 and the entire course of the simulated training was checked at the provisional command center installed in the auditorium of the university. The guard drone equipped with a 5G device for high-quality video transmission accurately showed situations such as illegal drone detection, tracking and arrest.

Silla University provided its anti-drone solution for locating an illegal drone within a radius of 18 kilometers within 10 seconds. The guard drone produced by Hanbit Drone was equipped with SK Telecom’s 5G smartphone and T Live Caster solution for command and video transmission. The solution maintains its picture quality even at 1,000 percent magnification and is capable of accurately identifying hazardous materials carried by illegal drones. BA Solutions’ jamming gun succeeded in paralyzing the illegal drone flying at an altitude of 500 meters.

The training was conducted for a better response to the mounting threat of illegal drones. For the first five months of this year, 891 flight attempts were made in the no-fly zones around the Gimhae International Airport.

The training participants concluded an agreement to conduct more joint training and R&D for three years to come so that their response system can be further developed and turned into solution packages to be applied to major facilities nationwide. The performance of the guard drone is expected to be enhanced to the point of directly neutralizing illegal drones and the guard drone is expected to be used for various purposes including forest fire prevention and hazardous material monitoring over manufacturing facilities.
