Dawn Delivery: New Name of the Game

Korean home shopping companies are entering a dawn delivery service war.

Lotte Home Shopping Inc. is launching dawn delivery service in July, igniting a new delivery service war in the home shopping industry.

Lotte Home Shopping is planning to open a dawn delivery section at Lotte Mall in July. The mall-in-mall section will sell some 500 products, including items that are currently sold via its TV home shopping channel and ready-made foods such as vegetables and meal kits. If customers purchase products at the section before 6 p.m., they will be able to have them delivered by 7 a.m. the next day. The delivery service will be available only in Seoul and the capital region for now considering logistics costs.

GS Home Shopping Inc. is also expanding the dawn delivery service. The company will jointly start the side dish dawn delivery service with Dongwon Home Food Co.’s The Banchan in June as well as the dawn delivery service with GS fresh in July, allowing customers to receive foods early in the morning if they place an order before midnight.

CJ O Shopping Corp. will also join the competition. The firm is planning to sell meal kits, which are only available in On Mart, an online mart run by CJ CheilJedang Corp., in CJ Mall. However, CJ CheilJedang’s meal kit products will be delivered two days after customers place an order because of the cooking process.

In addition, NS Home Shopping Co., which relies on food for 60 percent of its sales, is launching a dawn delivery service in the second half of the year. The company is planning to provide various products, including products which are sold via its TV home shopping channel

Hyundai Home Shopping Network Corp. already launched a dawn delivery service for the first time in the industry last year.
