POSCO Engineering announced on February 4 that a consortium of POSCO and IHI E&C obtained a US$400 million order for LNG terminal expansion from Thailand’s PTT LNG, a subsidiary of state-owned oil and gas company PTT.

The project, referred to as Phase II, is aimed at doubling the capacity of the LNG import terminal that was constructed in the Map Ta Phut Industrial Estate in 2011, which lies about 200 km southeast of Bangkok.

The existing terminal has a capacity of 5 million mt/year. The expansion of the terminal involves constructing two LNG storage tanks, processing and regasification facilities, and a new jetty for LNG carriers by February 2017.

The Korean firm holds a 50 percent stake in the US$400 million order.
