Sanctions against Samsung
Samsung Electronics was sanctioned by a US judge for violating a court order protecting the confidentiality of Apple’s patent-licensing accords.
Bloomberg reported on January 30 (local time) that Paul S. Grewal, a magistrate judge of the United States District Court for the Northern District of California, imposed sanctions against Samsung’s law firm, Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan LLP, on January 29 for disclosing Apple’s confidential information.
Quinn Emanuel is said to have sent a report via e-mail that revealed Apple’s patent-license agreements with Nokia, including “highly confidential financial terms,” to employees of Samsung.
Meanwhile, Samsung and Apple need to enter into CEO-level negotiations before February 19 under the court order. A second patent infringement lawsuit will take place on March 31.
