A Solution for Analysis of Electric Power Data

KEPCO KDN has developed the K-GIS, a geographic information system (GIS) solution that can analyze electric power data.

KEPCO KDN announced on April 2 that it has developed the K-GIS, a geographic information system (GIS) solution that can diversely analyze electric power data accumulated in real time in various systems.

Electric power data are accumulated in various systems such as advanced metering infrastructure (AMI), and various kinds of analysis solutions are used in the electric power field in Korea. However, KEPCO KDN said that a lack of GIS-based space and time analysis and visualization technology for making more reasonable decisions was impeding the effective utilization of such data and solutions. Accordingly, KEPCO KDN developed the K-GIS, a geospatial information system (GIS)-based solution that can analyze power data in terms of space and time.

The K-GIS is an open web GIS service platform that combines the latest information and communication technology (ICT) technology to store and analyze large-volume spatial information and supports various decision-making. It supports systematic facility management by providing high-quality power service by predicting power demand and facility life through big data analysis.

KEPCO successfully applied the K-GIS to the Integrated Smart Disaster Management System, the Integrated Optical Fiber Operation Management System and the Low Voltage AMI Server System. KEPCO KDN will continue to provide new electric power services such as load forecasts, utilizing K-GIS’s big spatial data analysis and various visualization technologies in response to increasing demand.

"We will step up our efforts to strengthen our competitiveness in electric power and energy new business in the era of the fourth industrial revolution and contribute to creating new value for customers at home and abroad," a KEPCO KDN official said.
