Medical Monitoring Device

Google announced on January 16 (local time) that it developed a prototype contact lens to measure blood sugar levels in the wearer’s tears.

The company explained that tracking glucose levels in real-time is possible with the attachment of a minuscule sensor, an antenna, and a chip to the lens. As a result, diabetics will be able to monitor their sugar levels without needing to draw blood every day. However, it is likely to take at least five years to commercialize the lens.

This product was secretly developed at Google X over the past 18 months. Previously, the secret research lab developed driverless cars and Google Glass.

The components of this contact lens are deceptively simple.
