Korea’s largest steel company and sixth biggest conglomerate, POSCO has selected current POSCO President Kwon Oh-jun as its next CEO.

The recommendation committee conducted its final review of candidates’ curriculum vitae and interview session on January 16, and of the five candidates that were interviewed, Kwon Oh-jun was announced the winner.

President Kwon Oh-jun is from North Gyeongsang Province.  Born in 1950, he graduated from Seoul National University with a degree in metallurgical engineering.  He began his career at POSCO in 1986, and worked through the ranks, eventually becoming President of POSCO Technology Institute.  He is now the President and Technical Executive of POSCO.

Kwon Oh-jun is expected to be officially nominated as the CEO at the annual shareholder’s meeting on March 14.

With Kwon Oh-jun’s selection, POSCO has, since going private in 2000,  selected its CEOs from within the POSCO family for the fourth time in a row, the first being Yoo Sang-bu, Lee Gu-taek, followed by Jeong Jun-yang, and now Kwon Oh-jun.

POSCO has been searching for a new CEO since November 2013, when former CEO Jeong Jun-yang announced his retirement.
