Naver, KT and Intel representing their respective industrial sectors among others will begin to make a foray into the 5G-based robot market.

Naver Labs, an R&D arm of Naver, announced on Feb. 28 that it signed a strategic alliance deal for developing 5G robots with KT and Intel at the MWC 2019 with NBP, a cloud computing business subsidiary of Naver.

Through this partnership, Naver will design and develop service robots using Intel's 5G, computing and sensors. In this process, NBP's Naver Cloud platform will play the roles of the brain of Naver Labs' self-driving brainless service robot. Moreover, KT connects the robot and its cloud computing service to 5G telecommunication networks, laying the groundwork for the service robot to send and receive data in real-time and with ultra-low latency.

Naver demonstrated its technological prowess by taking the wraps off the 5G Brainless Service Robot and the Around G, an augmented reality (AR) indoor self-propelled robot (an AR navigation guide robot) being developed by Naver Labs among others at CES2019 held in Las Vegas, the US in January.

In the meantime, future intelligent robots loaded with 5G technology including KT’s Artificial Intelligence Hotel Robot and Dal.com Coffee’s Robot Cafe 2E attracted visitors at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Spain. In particular, KT Pavilion made a demonstration where a robot delivered an order to a hotel guest through autonomous driving after finding the route according to a hotel map.
