Hyundai Motor's luxury brand Genesis placed second in a U.S. brand ranking for passenger cars, surpassing Porsche, Audi and BMW.

The Genesis earned 80 points out of 100 to rank second in the Brand Report Card for 2019, which was published by Consumer Reports of the Consumer Federation of America. The Genesis maintained its high position for the second consecutive year after coming in first in Consumer Reports’ brand evaluation last year.

Hyundai Motor also earned 73 points, standing 10th, up two notches from 2018. Kia Motors ranked sixth last year, but this year it finished at No. 12 with 70 points.

In addition, Hyundai's small sports utility vehicle (SUV) Kona was selected as one of the "Top 10 Best Picks of 2019." The Kona was selected as the best model in the sub-compact SUV category. In January, the Kona was chosen as the "2019 North American SUV of the Year." The Genesis G70 was the 2019 North American Car of the Year.

Consumer Reports ranks models by brands based on an assessment in four categories -- driving, reliability, customer satisfaction, and safety (collision test). The Genesis was followed by Porsche, Audi, Lexus, Mazda, BMW, Lincoln, Toyota and Hyundai in the top 10. Fiat stood lowest at 33rd place with 44 points. Jaguar (44), Land Rover (48) and Mitsubishi (49) were also given fewer than 50 points.
