Samsung Electronics will unveil the Galaxy S10 smartphone series in San Francisco on Feb. 20.

The company sent an invitation letter to global media outlets and partners on Jan. 11, announcing that it will introduce the Galaxy S10 series in San Francisco, a city close to the corporate headquarters of its archrival Apple.

Samsung Electronics has thus far unveiled the Galaxy S series on the eve of the opening of the Mobile World Congress (MWC), which is usually held in Barcelona, Spain at the end of February.

The disclosure of the Galaxy S10 is about a week earlier than usual. It is the first time that the new Galaxy series are unveiled in San Francisco, the home of Apple.

"This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Galaxy brand," a Samsung official said. "We decided that San Francisco is the best place to release new Galaxy products as it is a hub for major technology development and a place where important partners of Samsung Electronics are located."

Samsung Electronics appears to be trying to attract attention from the global smartphone industry by taking the wraps off the Galaxy S10 just before the MWC.

Some industry watchers speculate that Samsung Electronics may introduce its foldable smartphones at MWC. Samsung Electronics has reportedly introduced its foldable phones to its major partners at CES 2019, which is currently being held in Las Vegas. According to the Wall Street Journal, it is possible that foldable phones will be released along with the Galaxy S10 on Feb. 20.

The Galaxy S10 series is expected to come in four models – the regular S10 (6.1-inch), the S10 Plus (6.44-inch), the S10 Lite (5.8-inch flat design) and S10 5G after March. The regular S10 products will be equipped with a front single-lens camera and a rear dual-lens camera, while the S10 Plus will be equipped with a rear triple-lens camera (3x) a front dual-lens camera. The 5G model is expected to feature a quad-lens camera on the back. The two high-end models are expected to be equipped with Qualcomm's ultrasonic wave-based fingerprint recognition sensors, which can recognize fingerprints even when they are covered with water or soil.

Foreign media are predicting that the Galaxy S10 will be released on March 8.
