LG Electronics announced on Jan. 7 that it will unveil the world’s first rollable OLED TV at CES 2019, the world's largest information technology (IT) exhibition, which opens in Las Vegas on Jan. 8 (local time).
The company said the “LG Signature OLED TV R” is the world's first flexible TV featuring a screen that can be rolled. The product has received the CES 2019 Innovation Awards in the video display category. LG Electronics will launch the new TV model in Korea and other global markets.
The LG Signature OLED TV R unfolds the screen when the user watches the TV and rolls the screen into the main body when it is not used. The image quality is maintained while the screen is rolled in and out.
The LG Signature OLED TV R offers an optimized user experience for all three view types. Full View shows 65-inch full screen, while Line View shows a part of the screen, and Zero View shows no part of the screen.
Full View provides natural color close to perfect using light-emitting OLED elements and provides a perfect contrast ratio and excellent viewing angle.
Line View gives new enjoyment not found in conventional TV. The screen supports five modes of music, clock, frame, mood, and home dashboard. If users select the frame mode, they can look at the pictures stored on their smartphones, such as an art work in black and white, on the TV screen. The mood mode sets a comfortable atmosphere by putting a bonfire on the screen with a light effect. The home dashboard mode can be used to view and control the status of smart devices interlocked with the TV.
In Zero View, users can enjoy powerful sound with a built-in speaker with 4.2 channels and 100-watt (W) output. Users can enjoy high quality music by simply interlocking the TV with mobile devices such as a smartphone. Along with this, it is equipped with artificial intelligence (AI) processor alpha 9 second generation (α9 Gen 2), which supports the optimum picture and sound quality. The product also provides advanced natural language speech recognition based on LG’s proprietary artificial intelligence platform.
