The Korea Cadastral Survey Corporation (KCSC) will export its spatial information technology to Vietnam.

The corporation announced on January 1 that it held an information session in Hanoi, Vietnam on December 27 for the establishment of a comprehensive land information management system. It was attended by KCSC Chairman Choi Chang-hak, Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Nguyen Hien, and many more.

The US$3.5 million project is a part of the official development aid of the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) in Vietnam, and is scheduled to be completed in 2015. The corporation is going to move ahead with the project on a public-private cooperation basis in conjunction with the Korea Research Institute for Human Settlements and some small to mid-sized enterprises.

“This project is very meaningful in that it will be a cornerstone for the penetration of Vietnam’s spatial information industry, where it is difficult for private-sector companies to make inroads alone,” said the chairman of the KCSC, adding, “We will keep fulfilling our role as a leading organization specialized in spatial information while continuing our partnership with the private sector for the exploration of the spatial information market abroad.”

The Vietnamese government is planning to invest US$600 million to US$1 billion in the industry for five years to come to better utilize geospatial information in public administration. Under the circumstances, many global leaders such as Korea, Sweden, and Japan are vying to dominate the market first.
