Windows 8 Tablets

In January, Samsung Electronics will launch a tablet PC offensive in Korea by introducing new models of its ATIV Tab, its Windows 8-based 4G LTE tablet. The Korean tech giant is planning to strengthen the lineup of tablets targeting companies at the start of the year, and thus increase its share of the local tablet market.

According to industry sources on December 26, Samsung will launch two different types of Windows-based 4G LTE tablets through SK Telecom and KT Telecom as early as January.

The model that is due to be released through SK Telecom is likely to be the ATIV Tab 7. This NFC-enabled tablet features an Intel Core i5 processor, a 128GB SSD, and an 11.6-inch screen with the S Note and S Pen. Another model is the ATIV Tab 5, which will be introduced through KT. Like the ATIV Tab 7, it supports NFC, with a built-in S Pen and S Note. It also comes with Intel’s Atom processor, an 11.6-inch display, and a 64GB SSD.

The specifications of the two models are not much different from those of the ATIV Tab 3 launched last September. However, one of the biggest strengths of new versions lies in SideSync. The new technology enables users to switch from their PC to a Samsung smartphone and vice versa by connecting the two devices via a USB cable.

Samsung’s expansion of the lineup of Windows-based tablets can be interpreted as its intention to dominate and revitalize Korea’s sluggish tablet market for companies.
