Developing IoT Platform

It will soon be possible to control and monitor household appliances by chatting.

LG Electronics announced on December 25 that it has successfully developed the Home Chat service that combines a mobile messenger and smart household appliances for the first time. The company said that it will showcase smart household appliances featuring the service at CES 2014, the world’s largest consumer electronics show in Las Vegas, Nevada from January 7 to 10.

Designed by LG’s Smart Business Center, Home Chat is a service that enables communication between a user and household appliances through a smartphone based on the mobile messenger LINE. Remote controlling and monitoring household appliances and content-sharing are also possible.

Next year, the Korean company will introduce the service to smart household appliances from refrigerators, washing machines, and ovens to robotic vacuum cleaners, and expand the products that use the service with language support. After that, it plans to use the service as an Internet of Things (IoT) platform that shares information by connecting objects with wired and wireless networks.
