Expanding EV Lineup

Renault’s two-seater electric car Twizy will be manufactured in Renault Samsung's Busan plant next year.

Renault Samsung is planning to sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Busan City and the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy to produce the Renault Twizy, a small two-seater electric car, in its Busan plant from the fourth quarter of next year.

The Twizy is currently manufactured in the Valladolid plant in Spain, and Renault Samsung currently imports and sells the finished products. An official from Renault Samsung said, "The specific production scale has not yet been decided yet. The plant in Europe has some problems, including its failure to meet the needs of Asian markets. The establishment of a production line in Korea will greatly help with sales in Asia.”

In addition, industry sources see that with Renault's plan to expand the production of electric cars in the future, the production of TWIZY in Busan plant may bring benefits to Renault. Currently, Renault's electric car lineup includes four models of Twizy, SM3 ZE, minivan Kangoo, and hatchback Zoe, and if two of the four models are domestically manufactured in Renault Samsung’s Busan plant, this will help the company lead the electrical vehicle market in the future.
