Growing Popularity of Electric Cars

The number of electric cars sold by Hyundai and Kia until November of this year totaled 52,370 units, up a whopping 112.4% from the same period of last year.

Hyundai Motor and Kia Motors renewed their sales records for earth-friendly cars this year as sales of electric cars more than doubled.

According to the Korean automobile industry on Dec. 9, Hyundai and Kia sold 257,661 green cars in the domestic and overseas markets in the January-November period of this year. The two carmakers reached last year's sales of 256,258 units one month ahead of schedule, renewing their annual sales record. Compared to the same period of last year, sales grew about 10%.

The popularity of electric cars took the lead in increasing sales of eco-friendly cars. The number of electric cars sold by Hyundai and Kia until November of this year totaled 52,370 units, up a whopping 112.4% from the same period of last year.

Sales of plug-in hybrids (25,967 units) and hydrogen electric vehicles (798 units) also ballooned 51.9% and 42.5%, respectively. On the other hand, hybrid sales (178,726 units) fell 7.1%.
