Kakao Mobility announced on Dec. 3 that it will provide the roaming taxi-hailing service called “Kakao T JapanTaxi”  in cooperation with JapanTaxi, the biggest mobile taxi-hailing service in Japan.

The roaming taxi-hailing service is a service with the same concept as a smartphone roaming service that allows users to call local taxis from abroad using the same taxi-hailing app they use in Korea.

This new service allows Korean users to call local taxis in Japan using the application.

Kakao T users will have access to call 70,000 taxis registered in JapanTaxi using the Kakao T app without a need to install or register a separate app.

In order to use the new service, users just need to update the Kakao T application after the 6th. After the update, the application will automatically switch to the screen that calls local taxis when it is used in Japan, and the user will be able to enter the departure point and destination in Korean. The new service is also equipped with function a Korean-Japanese translation function called "translation talk" that is expected benefit Korean users in communicating with Japanese taxi drivers and minimize inconvenience caused from the language barrier.
