First 4-bit SSD Unveiled

Samsung Electronics has launched the 860 QVO series, the industry's first TB-class high performance 4-bit (QLC) SATA solid state drive (SSD).

Samsung Electronics announced on Nov. 28 that it has launched the 860 QVO series, the industry's first TB-class high performance 4-bit (QLC) SATA solid state drive (SSD). Starting with Korea next month, the product will be launched in 50 countries, including the U.S., China and Germany.

The cost-effective 860 QVO series is equipped with 1, 2, and 4TB of large storage space and high performance, providing a fast computing environment. In 2014, the Korean tech giant introduced the industry's first 3-bit SATA SSD 850 EVO based on V-NAND.

The 860 QVO 4TB model features an MJX controller and 4GB LPDDR4 DRAM optimized for SATA interface and intelligent turbo light function that together allow high-performance continuous reading (550 MB/s) and writing (520 MB/s) speed that is similar to the previous 3-bit SATA SSD.

It also provides up to 1440 TB of total bytes written (TBW), a measure of the life of the SSD, or a three-year warranty.
