Heir Apparent to LS Group Chairman

The LS Group promoted Koo Ja-eun, vice chairman of LS Mtron, to chairman in a regular personnel reshuffle on Nov. 27.

Koo Ja-eun, vice chairman of LS Mtron who is first in line for leadership succession at the LS Group, has been promoted to chairman of LS Mtron, the group announced on Nov. 27.

The new LS Mtron chairman is a son of the late Koo Doo-hoi, honorary chairman of Yesco and the youngest brother of Koo In-hoi, founder of the LG Group. He is expected to succeed LS Group chairman Koo Ja-yeol.

The group said Koo will also lead the group's Digital Innovation Promotion Team, which will focus on accelerating the group's "digital transformation," creating synergies among affiliates and nurturing talented employees.

Koo started as an entry-level employee and has accumulated experience in various business fields including electronics, trade, refining, non-ferrous metals, machinery and telecommunication while working at LG Electronics, LG Corp., GS Caltex and LS-Nikko Copper at home and abroad for over 20 years.

When Koo was appointed as an inside director of LS Corp., the holding company of the LS Group, in March, it was seen as a step towards making him the next chairman of the LG Group.

The LS Group has been following a succession tradition of cousins takin the group's leadership by turns. The incumbent chairman, Koo Ja-yeol is the oldest son of honorary chairman Koo Pyung-hoi, who is one of the elder brothers of the late Koo Doo-hoi.
