Fierce Competition with Chinese Makers

Samsung Electronics claimed first place in the Nigerian smartphone market with a 29% share in the third quarter of this year.

In the fast-growing Nigerian smartphone market, Samsung Electronics came in first in the third quarter of this year, beating Chinese makers.

According to Market Pulse, the latest quarterly smartphone market report released by global market researcher Counterpoint Research on Nov. 26, Samsung Electronics claimed first place with a 29% market share in the third quarter of this year. Strong sales of the recently launched new Galaxy J4 and J6 series boosted the Korean smartphone giant’s overall market share.

The second to fourth spots were taken by Tecno (22%), Itel (11%) and Infinix (8%), respectively. The three belong to the Transsion Group of China.

Huawei of China also grew 28% from the previous quarter, standing fifth with a share of 4%. These Chinese makers accounted for 45% of total sales in the Nigerian smartphone market, though their respective sales figures were lower than those of Samsung Electronics.
