LG CNS announced on Nov. 21 that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Lunit, a medical artificial intelligence (AI) service company, for cooperation in public health AI.

Under the MOU, the two companies will cooperate to develop an AI-utilizing system that can analyze a medical X-ray image in 15 seconds. It will be based on LG CNS' cloud service.

The strength of LG CNS is its ability to build and operate the cloud. LG CNS was the first IT service company to acquire LG G-Cloud security certification in March of this year.

Lunit is a medical AI company founded in 2013. Last year, it was the only Korean company to put its name on “The AI 100 2018” list by U.S. platform CB Insights.

In particular, Lunit has developed software that analyzes X-ray images with AI and reports the areas suspected to be pulmonary nodule and got a license from the Korean Ministry of Food and Drug Safety in August. The company plans to further apply for licenses for a variety of lung diseases such as tuberculosis, pneumonia, and pneumothorax.

The two companies will carry out a project to develop a service that can analyze an X-ray image within 15 seconds for prompt diagnosis of lung diseases.
