TAG Solution, a Korean startup that manufactures transparent display panels, has attracted a total of 500 million won in investment from Naver Corp.’s venture capital Spring Camp and Yonsei University Technology Holdings.
Park Seung-hwan, president of TAG Solution who is a graduate of Seoul National University’s Mechanical Engineering Department, strongly believes that the market for transparent LED display panels will continue to expand in the future as transparent glass is increasingly used for buildings. Media facades, outdoor advertisements, and digital signage that utilize buildings will also continue to expand, increasing demand for transparent LED solutions.
With a thin 1mm thickness, TAG Solution’s products are very light and easy to handle, and can be easily attached to or fixed on the glass of a building. They are highly transparent because LEDs are controlled by transparent electrodes whose circuits are invisible.
TAG Solution is currently focusing on setting up the manufacturing line for mass-production, and it is planning to launch its transparent panel solutions in a wide array of countries, starting with South Korea and Japan in the first half of 2019. It is planning to install its panels on buildings in South Korea on a trial basis starting from December 2018 .
"Existing transparent and opaque display solutions cannot be easily applied to buildings because of problems in transparency, brightness, and weight," CEO Park Seung-hwan said. “However, our products can be easily installed as they are transparent and light.”
Park said his company plans to provide panels to event organizers or stage setters on a rental basis as they are reusable. He said TAG Solution will lead the transparent LED display market by increasing production yield based on manufacturing solutions that can minimize the reject rate.
TAG Solution will start its promotional campaign by participating in the International Broadcast Equipment Exhibition (Inter BEE 2018) to be held in Tokyo in November 2018.
