On Track to Launch 5G Services in March

LG U+ plans to roll out 5G services via smartphones in March of next year.

LG U+ is stepping up preparations to launch 5G services in March next year. It plans to build a 5G ecosystem by linking large and small vendors of network equipment and devices and provide stable services through optimal cell design.

LG U+ plans to emit its first 5G radio waves on Dec. 1, centering on the Seoul metropolitan area and some other large cities, and roll out services via smartphones in March of next year.

LG U+ has joined forces with France’s Forsk, the world's leading radio wave design program company, to ensure an optimal and reliable quality of 5G networks. Atoll, Forsk’s cell design program, is used by global telecom companies such as Verizon, AT&T, Softbank and China Mobile and more than 500 companies including Samsung, Nokia, Huawei and ZTE.

LG U+ created the most optimized 5G cell design by combining its network operation know-how with the world's best cell design program Atoll. As 5G uses beam-forming technology, it is more difficult to predict the moves of 5G raio waves than 4G frequencies. LG enhanced its accuracy by applying the raytracing method, which allows network operators to predict the moves of radio waves.

The mobile carrier completed cell design for the Seoul metropolitan area including Gyeonggi Province and Incheon and other metropolitan areas through one-year preparation from October of last year.
