Opening Era of 10 Giga Internet

KT's 10 Gbps Internet services debut on Nov. 1.

Back in 2014, KT Corp. boosted its wired Internet speed from 100 Mbps to 1 Gbps. In four years, the company achieved another quantum jump by launching Internet services with a speed of 10 Gbps.

KT announced that it launches the first nationwide 10 Gbps Internet services on Nov. 1. In addition, the company is planning to launch 10 Gbps WiFi services late this month for a speed of up to 1.7 Gbps.

KT is currently applying WiFi mesh technology to its Giga WiFi Wave 2 (GWW2) so that routers can be automatically connected at optimal frequencies for Internet services without disconnection. The company is going to apply the technology to its 10 Gbps WiFi services as well in the first half of next year. Also, in September 2019, it is going to release WiFi 6 (802.11ax) routers with a maximum speed of 4.8 Gbps.

KT is planning to contribute to Industry 4.0 by providing 10 Gbps Internet services dedicated to enterprises and organizations, too. According to the company, its new services are expected to contribute to industrial competitiveness improvement by being combined with artificial intelligence, blockchain technology, and so on while its 10 Gbps public WiFi services constitute a key part of smart city infrastructure.
