KT Corp. announced on Oct. 29 (local time) that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Suez Canal Authority (SCA) in Ismailia, Egypt to build smart infrastructure for the Suez Canal based on information and communication technologies (ICT).

KT will enhance the wired and wireless communication infrastructure of the Suez Canal and supply security and control solutions.

To carry out these projects, KT will use its technology, solutions, big data analysis capabilities, and data center operation know-how, including Giga Wire, KT-MEG, Giga Eyes, and Giga IoT.

KT held a ceremony in Cairo on Oct. 29 to mark the launch of Giga Wire services in Egypt. Giga Wire, developed by KT for the first time in the world, is a technology that provides internet speed of up to 1Gbps with a copper telephone line without opening a separate optical cable.
