Order for 70 Diesel Electric Locomotives

Hyundai Rotem has won a US$239 million order for 70 diesel electric locomotives from Bangladesh.

Hyundai Rotem announced on October 11 that the company won a US$239 million order for 70 diesel electric locomotives from the Bangladesh Railway Authority.

A diesel electric locomotive runs on power from a power generator powered by a diesel engine. The locomotive can run on a railway without an electric car line. This order will boost Hyundai Rotem's share of the diesel electric locomotive market in Bangladesh to 32.6%. Hyundai Rotem received a 41-billion-won order for diesel electric locomotives from the country in May.

Hyundai Rotem's cars ordered this time can run on narrow tracks and are manufactured using flame retardant materials to meet tougher safety regulations.

The train cars will go into production at Hyundai Rotem’s Changwon Plant in 2020. They will be delivered by 2023 with the first shipment slated for the first half of 2021. The cars will be used in the Dhaka-Chittagong route in Bangladesh.
