Amid Improvement in Financial Structure

Asiana Airlines settled wage negotiations for 2018 with the Asiana Pilot Union on Oct. 8.

Asiana Airlines Inc. announced on Oct. 9 that it settled wage negotiations for 2018 with the Asiana Pilot Union and had a signing ceremony on Oct. 8. On Sept. 18, 82.2 percent of the union members voted in favor of a tentative agreement.

Asiana Airlines had a total of seven wage negotiations for 2018 with the pilot union since the first meeting in August. The tentative agreement includes a base pay increase of 250,000 won (US$219.68) a month for a pilot and 150,000 won (US$131.81) a month for a co-pilot; a pay raise of 150,000 won (US$131.81) for a senior pilot and 29,000 won (US$25.48) for a senior co-pilot, based on the term of service; a flight allowance raise of 1,000 won (US$0.88) for a pilot of small and mid-size planes; and a flight allowance raise for a pilot of cargo planes from 10 percent to 20 percent.

The two side pledged to maintain win-win management-union relations based on mutual trust. Kim E-bae, executive vice president handling corporate support at Asiana Airlines, said, “The management and the pilot union reached a wage agreement smoother than ever this year. It is meaningful in that the labor and  management have joined hands for the growth of the company at a time when tangible improvement has been achieved in the company's financial structure.”
