‘T Guam-Saipan Pass’

SK Telecom will launch the “T Guam-Saipan Pass” service on September 19 that charges its users in Guam and Saipan the same mobile data rates as in South Korea.

SK Telecom announced on September 12 that its “T Guam-Saipan Pass” debuts on September 19 to apply the same mobile data rates as in South Korea to its users in Guam and Saipan.

With the T Guam-Saipan Pass, users can continue using mobile data at a speed of 400 kbps after using up their data. When it comes to voice calling, three minutes is given for free everyday and a fee of 1.98 won, which is the same as in South Korea, is applied after the free minutes. Unlimited free text messages are provided as well. For the T Guam-Saipan Pass, SK Telecom bought local mobile carrier shares by investing 35 billion won and became the second-largest shareholder in IT&E.

With the number of outbound tourists continuing to rise, global mobile carriers are trying to find better ways with regard to roaming charges. The charges are fixed based on contracts with foreign telecom operators, and users cannot but feel burdensome. This is why many South Korean outbound tourists carry pocket WiFi devices and the like.

In celebration of the launching of the calling plan, SK Telecom provides free 1GB data each day from September 19 to December 31 for every SK Telecom customer visiting Guam or Saipan.
